A YUUlemas Carol Holiday Pageant

Sunday December 17th at 10:30 am, livestreamed from the Sanctuary

For the second year, our annual holiday pageant is an original production: a YUUlemas parody of Unitarian Charles Dickens’s classic tale, A Christmas Carol. Kids and teens from our children’s RE and Senior Youth Group programs are taking on acting and singing roles; children and youth can plug-in day-of as long as they attend the 9 am rehearsal on that Sunday morning. This year, our pageant was planned and will be led by Laura Nevitt, Rev. Catie, and Darrah Bryans, with crucial assistance from our RE families and the Worship Committee.

Reconnecting with the Earth: Winter Solstice Ritual

Sunday December 17th at 12:30 pm (after social hour); Sanctuary and Front Lawn
Join Rev. Catie and Darrah for a ritual service celebrating the winter solstice. We will gather to honor pagan and earth based spirituality that connects us to the web of life and our own humanity. Be sure to dress warmly, as we will gather outside for a short potion of time for a ritual, including food and drink to nourish both our bodies and our spirits as we approach the longest night of the year.

Longest Night Vespers Service, December 21, 2023

Thursday December 21 at 5:30 pm, livestreamed from the Sanctuary
Join us for our Blue Holiday/Winter Solstice in person and online vesper service. On this longest night of the year we will explore the complicated feelings of grief and sadness in a time that is traditionally one of joy and celebration. If you will be joining us online, please have a stone and access to some earth, whether potted and indoors or outside “in the wild.” We will be engaging in an embodied spiritual practice using these items. If you struggle during this time of year, please join us for a healing time of music, contemplation, and spiritual practice.

Cocoa, Coffee, & Carols

Sunday December 24th at 10:30 am, livestreamed from the Parish Hall
With Christmas Eve landing on a Sunday this year, Rev. Catie, Laura, Darrah, and Chris invite one and all for our annual carol sing as our Christmas Eve Sunday morning service! We’ll gather in the Parish Hall, with cocoa and coffee available (thanks to Friends of Social Hour), and sing both traditional and modern Christmas carols and songs. Holiday crafts will also be available, too, and special music from First Parishioners Judy Hadrick and Marcia Hanjian.

Candlelit Christmas Eve

Sunday December 24th at 5:30 pm, livestreamed from the Sanctuary
Celebrate Christmas Eve by candlelight with First Parish! Rev. Catie and Darrah will lead our service with traditional liturgy and non-traditional UU theology. As Unitarian Universalists, we believe “each night a child is born is a holy night” (Rev. Sophia Lyon Fahs), and this year we especially celebrate the prophet Jesus’s ministry of love. Our First Parish Choir, under Laura and Chris’s direction, will offer music. For folks participating on YouTube and Zoom, you’re encouraged to bring your own candle, candle emoji, or candlelit background for the singing of Silent Night.
