Become a Youth Group Service Trip Sponsor!

Members of our Senior Youth Group are heading to St. John (USVI) to volunteer with the Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park during April vacation week. During their service trip, our teens and their chaperones will provide needed trail maintenance in the national park; learn about the human history of the island (including colonization and enslavement); and, experience the impact of the climate crisis on the local environment. Our youth will also spend a morning volunteering at the Humane Society of St. Thomas, and may transport rescued stray animals back to Boston to be adopted out of local shelters.

While accommodations are minimal and affordable (our group will be camping at the National Park’s site, in tents and with cold showers), the flights and food on-island are very expensive. Each family is contributing $500 per participant, and the church gratefully received a $7,500 grant, which covers most of the flight costs. The Senior Youth Group is deeply grateful to all who made and bought pies at their first fundraiser on “Pi(e) Sunday,” and the teens look forward to sharing homemade soups, salad, biscuits/muffin, and desserts ($20 for the full lunch) with you at Soup Sunday on April 7th!

But, we still have a way’s to go!

As part of their fundraising efforts, the Youth Group is offering tiered sponsorship of their trip:

  • $50 to be included on their daily email updates
  • $100 to have access to their trip Spotify playlist
  • $250 to receive an original piece of art made by a trip participant * $500 to join a special dinner & presentation with the Youth Group (likely in May)

You can donate directly through the Realm (, select “Youth Group Trip”) or write a check to First Parish (memo line: Youth Group Trip) and send it to 23 Dedham Avenue.

Please be in touch with Darrah Bryans (trip leader, if you have questions or want to make a donation. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of our youth!
