The Continued Greening of First Parish

Over the past 18 years, First Parish has been transformed from a drafty, nearly uninsulated building to becoming the first house of worship in Massachusetts to earn an Energy Star rating for superior energy efficiency. The church has reduced its carbon footprint by 67%, cut its water use by 50%, and has nearly eliminated waste from its Sunday Social Hour. How was this transformation accomplished and what are the next steps in the church’s sustainability efforts? Can we aim for a zero energy building? Ed Quinlan and Eleanor Rosellini, who were closely involved in the process, hope to inspire others as they give a virtual behind-the-scenes look at what makes First Parish green.
