For our second Congregational Virtual Field Trip we will be witnessing a full service from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, Georgia held on July 5th.  Their own member the Rev. Duncan E. Teague was the guest preacher that morning.  He is now the minister of the emerging Abundant LUUv Congregation of SW Atlanta.  He and the Rev. Donald Milton III, Director of Music use a part of their sanctuary, now converted to a small production studio, to produce a socially-distant, recorded-live, worship experience that is at the same time inspiring, moving and challenging.

This summer is an interesting historical moment to examine how we love our country.  With a focus on the meaning of the music we associate with Independence Day and the difference between Patriotism and Nationalism Rev. Teague helps us wrestle with our “patriotism” right now even amid our national storms.  Can we be proud of the ideals for which our country stands even as we acknowledge how far we still have to go to reach them?

After viewing this recent inspiring service through our own Zoom meeting please stay for the First Parish Social Hour to meet with friends and discuss your thoughts and feelings about the experience of facing what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist American in our current times.  During the Social Hour we will have our own opportunity to share Joys and Concerns as well as make a contribution to the work of First Parish in Needham and the Needham Community Council.
