Reflect and Uproot White Supremacy Culture in UUism and at First Parish

by | Jan 12, 2022

Zoom workshop series running from February 3rd to June 16th; typically two Thursdays a month at 7:30 pm

Our national denomination, the Unitarian Universalist Association, reminds us that their 2020 publication Widening the Circle of Concern: Report of the UUA Commission on Institutional Change must not be viewed as simply an academic exploration into the current state of the prevalence of White Supremacy Culture within Unitarian Universalism. Instead, as a people of faith, Unitarian Universalists are encouraged to approach this report with humility and resolve. As a “living tradition,” our faith’s survival depends on its relevance, and relevance depends on accepting and addressing the truth of the findings of the UUA’s Commission on Institutional Change (COIC).

Through these 11 study/action sessions, Rev. Catie and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee hope to inspire reflection, repair, and reconciliation both as Unitarian Universalists and as First Parishioners. All meetings will happen in Rev. Catie’s Zoom room, beginning February 3rd at 7:30 pm. Contact Rev. Catie with any questions and for the Zoom link (also available in the e-newsletter, the Bell Notes). Please read the Introduction and Theology chapters of the report prior to the February 3rd meeting (as linked above, and available to order from the UUA Bookstore).
