Raising Anti-Racist Kids: How to Get Conversations Started

Research shows that racial bias begins to develop in children as young as three years old. Fortunately, parents can disrupt the development of racial bias by talking intentionally with their children about race, racism, and difference. On Sunday, December 8 at 4 pm, First Parish is pleased to host a workshop with Ellie Axe, Director of Story Starters, who will provide participants with an overview of the research on race and kids and will teach parents practical ways to start having conversations about race and racism with their children. Participants will gain concrete actions they can take in their own home to start to prepare children to navigate our diverse world.

This event will take place in First Parish in Needham’s Parish Hall, in our program building accessible from Lincoln Street. Childcare will be provided, and parking is available behind First Parish in the town’s Lincoln St Lot. Registrations are appreciated.

We also look forward to hosting Story Starters for their Winter 2025 Cohort, for the first time based out of Needham! This four-session series begins Sunday January 26th, again in First Parish’s Parish Hall.
