Often, we think and speak of “Evil” as a cosmic force, plotting and scheming and shaping the world in its own image. Or else, we conceive of “evil” as an adjective — an inherent property of people or systems that leads to harm being caused. Today, we’ll spend some time with yet another notion: Evil as a substance that is produced by society. What might this sense of the world offer us, and how might it inform our pursuit of a more loving planet? 

Mac Perkins-High (they/he) is a Candidate for UU Ministry based in Harvard, Massachusetts. A lifelong UU, Mac was called to ministry through their experiences in the food service industry. They hold master’s degrees in Divinity and Education, and most recently served as the Intern Minister of the First Church of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In their non-work life, Mac loves projects that pull together threads of art, math, stories, and the outdoors. They can often be found wandering around the woods of New England, playing with their niece and nephew, and enjoying the autumn weather.
