The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee wants to
extend the privilege of giving the Welcome at our
Sunday service to everyone in the congregation. We see
this as part of our mission of living into the 8th Principle,
which includes working to overcome oppressions within
and outside our congregation. Offering new ways to give
the welcome on Sundays is part of our effort to include
people of all physical abilities in our worship services
and eliminate an oppression that might be invisible to
most of us. There are people who cannot manage the
steps up to the chancel for whatever reason. We would
like to include anyone who wants to give the welcome, or
take another part in the service, regardless of ability.
People are invited to sit at the bottom of the chancel
steps or to stand at the candles microphone. Another
option is to use the railing that is located along the right
side of the steps, enabling some to use the lectern.
First Parish’s pulpit is also available for use if
someone doesn’t feel comfortable traversing the space to
the lectern. If you are interested in any of these options
just speak with Rev. Catie or Darrah. Whatever your
needs, you are welcome to participate in the service.
