February 3, 2018 marks the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the USS Dorchester, a tragedy of WWII in which 627 of the 902 aboard died. Among those who drowned were the four chaplains assigned to the ship, who as one placed their life vests on the frightened bodies of four young sailors, and prayed together aloud as the ship went down. As we look back at their astonishing example of leadership and sacrifice in the midst of chaos, let us ponder our own calling to serve in turbulent times.
