Jim and Beth Sargent with Jeannette Anderson
This Sunday we will have a chance to revisit the service we had last summer on the first Sunday in August. It was our annual Gospel Singing service in which we heard and sang with Jim and Beth Sargent and listened to Jeanette Anderson reflect on what it was like for the homesteaders in Texas where she has early roots back in the 19th century. Many in our congregation have fond memories of singing the gospel music of the Camp Meeting era whether or not our families actually joined in with the evangelical movement. Because the COVID-19 pandemic was in full force last summer our service was held on the lawn in front of the church with about 25 people practicing social distancing and trying to sing with their masks on. This year we are still not using our sanctuary for services but we didn’t want to break the 10 year tradition of holding a Gospel Music service at First Parish. So we have “remastered” our archival video to add the words to the songs so you can sing along from home. Come and join in the fun!
