“A Personal Holocaust Story” by Dr. Alan Stern

January 27 th is Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day of commemoration was established to promote education and prevent future genocide. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz- Birkenau camp in 1945.

Imagine living a normal life, when suddenly your whole world is turned upside down. As the child of a child survivor, Alan Stern feels compelled to share his family’s history of survival, hope and bravery. He will also discuss the effects of intergenerational trauma and ways he has managed it.

This talk is in memory of Alan’s father Sam, grandmother Karolina, grandfathers Arthur
and David, and to the six million whose stories need to be told.

Bio:
Dr. Alan Stern is a long-time resident of Needham. As a pediatrician, he served on the Needham Board of Health and as the Town of Needham school physician. He is a currently an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Alan is married to Lori Tenser and together they are the parents of Reuben, Jeremy and Celia.
