Asst. Prof. Madhavi Venkatesan, Assistant Teaching Professor of Economics, Northeastern University
“The Circle of Life: the Life Cycle of Food, from Production to Disposal, and the Relationship between Value and Price”
Dr. Madhavi Venkatesan will address the life cycle of food, from production to disposal, including the relationship between value and price. The discussion will highlight the relationship between marketed demand, human health, and environmental sustainability, and how food provides an opportunity individually and collectively to be part of meaningful planetary stewardship.
Madhavi Venkatesan is Assistant Teaching Professor of Economics at Northeastern University. She has published three textbooks for the series A Framework for Sustainable Practices and her fourth text is SDG8 – Sustainable Economic Growth and Decent Work for All. Her text, Economics of Sustainability is to be published in 2022 and she is currently writing SDG12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. She has chapters published in many books and many articles in professional journals and is presently the Editor in Chief of Sustainability and Climate Change. In 2016, Madhavi established Sustainable Practices, a nonprofit whose mission is “to facilitate a culture of sustainability as defined by reducing the human-made impact to the planet and its ecosystems” within Barnstable County and is the organization’s executive director.
